Let Go and Let God

♦♦We often make New Year resolutions around this time of year. We commit to various changes, (usually for the better) that we would like to make. We look back and reflect upon our lives and we pray, hope and dream that things will be better this year that in previous years. But you know, there are actually times when things are out of our control. We cannot better them without the help of God in our lives. Sometimes our New Years resolution should be to give our situation, whatever it may be, to God. He really is the only one who truly knows what’s best for us.
♦♦
I’m reminded of a woman in the Bible who did just that. Her name was Hannah. (I Samuel ch. 1) For many years Hannah could not have children. Based upon the custom at that time, Hannah was looked down on because she could not have children. Hannah was mocked by the other woman in her community who could have children. Her situation was definitely out of her control. However, Hannah prayed and gave her situation to God. Finally, God decided to bless Hannah with a son and later even more children. In actuality, for many years, Hannah ended one year and began another with the same painful reality that she was unable to have children. It was not until she gave the situation fully and completely to God, making a full life commitment to Him that he blessed her with her first son. This son she gave back to God as promised.

So, for those situations that are outside of your control, give them to God. Give Him your life and commitment. Wait on Him to decide what is best for you. There is no need to struggle from year to year, trying to fix what is not meant to be fixed without God. This usually leads to becoming frustrated, angry and even depressed because change does not happen soon enough. But God loves and cares for us all, He’ll grant you a blessing when He knows you are ready to receive it.

This year simply resolve to live a life committed to God in His will and prayer and you may find it easier to resolve to just…LET GO AND LET GOD!!!
